Organization Structure

Executive Council

The Executive Council is the executive body of the Church and acts on behalf of the membership between Annual Meetings. 

The Executive Council is composed of the officers (Moderator, Vice Moderator, Clerk, and Treasurer and Minister), and Chairpersons of the boards of the Church. The Executive Council meets monthly.  All meetings are public.

The Pastoral Relations Committee reports to the Executive Council.

Board of Deacons

The Board of Deacons is responsible for the spiritual life of the congregation by overseeing worship services and music programs and ministering to the ill, infirm and lonely.
The Board of Deacons also oversees a Deacons’ Fund which the Minister uses to assist members of the Gorham community who are in need.

Deacons also welcome new members to the First Parish community.

The Music Committee reports to the Board of Deacons

Board of Missions

The Board of Missions shall be responsible for the mission and justice ministry of the Church by creating opportunities for our Church community to live out our faith by serving God through our service to others in the community, nation and world . 

Their work includes:  Special offerings for mission projects, In gathering (Thanksgiving Baskets), Christmas gifts organized through the Gorham Food Pantry, support of Greater Portland Family Promise families, support of Courage House (recovery), and many other projects.

The  Social Justice Committee, and Environmental Justice Committee report to the Board of Missions.

Board of Faith Exploration

The Board of Faith Exploration oversees of the entire program of Faith Exploration, for all age groups in the Church.

Their work includes Sunday morning Faith Exploration for children, retreats, confirmation, and summer camp scholarships, and Beyond Worship for adults.

Board of Community Outreach

The Board of Community Outreach is responsible for marketing and community partnership, this includes developing and implementing an integrated Church marketing plan, style guide, and social media guidelines.  It works with all other boards to maximize marketing and publicity opportunities; and develops community partnerships and projects.

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the management of the Church buildings, grounds and tangible property.

Board of Finance

The Board of Finance provides input to the Executive Council concerning the financial life of the Church.  They are responsible for the Annual Budget and the Operating and Endowment Funds.  The Invested Funds Committee reports to the Board of Finance.
